From U.S. Senator Chris Coons to Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, Stacey Abrams, Ambassador Susan Rice, Janet Napolitano, George Stephanopoulos, and over 3,500 others, there is no “one size fits all” path for a Truman Scholar.
In 2023, we have Truman Scholars serving everywhere from the National Security Council to American embassies representing US interests overseas. Truman Scholars are mayors of small towns, university presidents, leading major nonprofits, commanding storied military units, candidates for higher office, and much more.
A Lifelong Community
Within our community, diversity is our strength. Each year the Truman Scholarship receives more applications from aspiring young leaders working across issues and party lines. By being named a Truman Scholar, one does not earn merely a scholarship, but perhaps more importantly, is welcomed into a lifelong community of people dedicated to public service and civic engagement.
